Lift your hands slowly in front of you, then let them open to either side. Follow the movement with your breathing technique. Feel the shift of weight through your feet and the space opening across your chest.

This is an inviting place to begin exploring Qigong with tuning forks: a familiar movement, your full attention, and a tone that gradually fades into calm.

Qigong cultivates Chi, the vital energy of the body, through movement, breathing, and intention. Tuning forks bring sound into that practice, offering a way to explore vibration while attending to the energy centers within you.

Discovering the subtle through movement

Qigong’s slow, graceful forms give you time to experience a movement from the inside. As your hands rise, follow the sensation through your arms. As they lower, bring your attention into the lower abdomen.

Here is the lower dantian, an energy center used in Qigong for gathering and cultivating Chi. Rest your hands over this area for a few breaths. Apply your breathing technique and visualize a warm light beneath your palms.

Let that image accompany the next round of movement. Picture the light expanding as your hands open, then gathering in the lower abdomen as they return. Give the movement purpose through your attention.

The same sequence becomes an opportunity to explore the inner body through your breath and graceful form.

Bring sound into the practice

After a few rounds, come to stillness. Hold your tuning fork by its stem and activate it against a rubber activator or the padded area of your palm.

Hold it near the lower abdomen. Listen to the tone while attending to the dantian, continuing with your breathing technique. Visualize vital energy gathering in this center as the sound rings out.

Vibration is the language of the subtle body. As you listen, bring your attention inward, following the breath into the space beneath your hands. Sound, movement, and intention become parts of the same meditation.

The Subtle Body, also called the Biofield, is the energy field surrounding and permeating the body. To include it in your practice, slowly sweep the tuning fork through the space around your torso. Pause near the chest or lower abdomen, then let the vibration settle before activating it again.

An intention you can put into practice

An intention gives your session a personal meaning. Consider an aspect of life you want to approach with greater awareness: speaking with kindness, listening patiently, or giving a creative project your wholehearted attention.

Bring that intention into your movements. Let the opening of your hands express generosity. As you draw them inward, contemplate what it means to receive with gratitude.

Then introduce the tuning fork. Hold it near the center of your chest and apply your breathing technique. Picture your intention clearly, including how it might be expressed in an ordinary moment later in the day.

For a practice devoted to patience, imagine listening to someone without preparing your answer. For gratitude, bring a particular person to mind. Let the feeling become specific.

Exploring the Heart Chakra

Carry that attention into a Heart Chakra meditation. The heart is a place to contemplate how love takes form: in the words we speak, the care we offer, and our willingness to understand another person.

Begin by resting a hand over the center of your chest. Reflect on compassion, then activate your tuning fork and hold it near this area.

As you apply your breathing technique, visualize light expanding from the heart through the chest and shoulders. Extend your meditation toward someone you love, then toward someone you find difficult to understand.

Stay with the intention of meeting both with an open heart. A short inward prayer can deepen the practice:

May the kindness I cultivate here become kindness in the way I speak and listen.

Let the tone fade, keeping your attention at the heart. To explore vibration through contact, continue with the following technique.

Going deeper with Bone Conduction

For an advanced technique called Bone Conduction, activate a weighted tuning fork, then gently press the tip of its handle against your collarbone or the breastbone at the center of your chest. Maintain light contact as the vibration travels through the bone into the body. Apply your breathing technique and bring your attention to the vibration within the chest.

This gives the meditation a tactile focus. Explore the vibration through direct contact, bringing another dimension to your awareness of the inner body.

Our Attenuator/Boot attachments enhance the functionality of your tuning forks by offering different grips and contact surfaces. The Crystal Massage Attenuator Handle, also called a gemstone boot, extends your reach and lets you hold the handle in your palm. Its interchangeable crystal tip brings gemstone contact into the practice.

Bring the practice to a close

Set your tuning fork down and let your hands open once more. Follow the movement with your breath, then lower your palms to the dantian. Rest there, feeling the warmth of your hands as you contemplate the energy you have cultivated.

Qigong gives intention a graceful form. Sound draws your attention into vibration. In the stillness that follows, spend a few moments with the feeling behind your practice: gratitude for someone you love, compassion for someone you struggle to understand, or devotion to the life growing within you.

Our individual 432 Hz Weighted Tuning Fork and 528 Hz Weighted Tuning Fork are two instruments to explore alongside Qigong.

As you finish, bring to mind one way to express your intention today. A thoughtful word, a patient conversation, or a generous act gives the inward work a place in the world.

If you become dizzy, pause. Consult a qualified professional about breathing methods or movements suited to your health needs.
