Our Harmonic Lotus steel tongue drum is the perfect combination of form and function. It has a beautiful, ethereal sound that evokes the feeling of an ocean or rain forest. Its sound can be heard in nature, in music ranging from classical to jazz to reggae, and even in the natural world of whales, dolphins, and elephants.
The Harmonic Lotus is a musical instrument like no other – one thing I can say about this drum is it sounds more beautiful than you would’ve imagined.

Tongue Drums are intuitive and easy to play, and can be very relaxing with many applications as a sound instrument. It is tuned to C major with a 15 note scale. This tongue drum will make a great addition to your shamanic drum circle, your yoga practice, or just sitting around the campfire...
Because of the nature of vibration, the higher notes have smaller tongues, so there is less room for oscillation and resonance. These are the percussive notes - the snap, ping, and pop sounds. Most instruments have this type of note and each sound that this drum makes can be skillfully woven into a beautiful harmony, and is most beautiful expressed after learning how to maintain a rhythm and flow of notes. This is also true of tuning forks, to increase the frequency, the tuning fork length is decreased. With less material to vibrate, the speed of the vibration increases.
A percussive sound is rarely the main focus of a song and percussive sounds themselves cannot carry a tune. But when used correctly, most well-known pieces of music would not sound the same without them. The brief percussive sounds of the higher notes do sound flatter than the lower tones that resonate longer, but that is essentially what a percussive sound is, and most instruments are designed to have this type of note, and when added to a piece of music in the right places, it adds a fullness and richness to the sound.
It comes with mallets, an instruction booklet, and a carry case.
This drum ships same day or next day and should arrive within 2-4 days. Please, allow additional time depending on availability and for certain locations.
Helpful Tips:
Because the tongues that produce the higher tones are very small, you must tap them very gently, so they can oscillate at their natural vibration. If you strike them too hard, the concussive force can cancel their sound, making them appear to be flattened. Playing with your fingers is recommended because their is no concussive force, and by playing gently, you can hear the sound of the tone reflected within the space of the tongue drum.
This method of playing with the hands is most recommended as the quiet tap and thud of using your fingers allows you to hear the full sound of the tongue drum. It isn't just just the direct sound of striking the tongues of the drum but also subtle the reverberation of the sound within the drum.
