We advise getting at least 3–5 different kinds so you may experiment with creating your own unique blends. There are so many different kinds of essential oils and ways to combine them that this can be a lot of fun and a very gratifying experience. You can make an energizing combination to use before your yoga sessions or a soothing blend to use before bed each night.
At the center of any activity, including the stillness of meditation, is the breath. All action and thought are possible because of the coordinated movement of breathing, as it purifies and energizes the entire body and mind. Essential oils can be applied in conjunction with any activity and it can be as effortless as breathing. Oil diffusion offers a simple and effective way to use essential oils in your living room, at a group practice, or one-on-one with a client.
Some of the oils like Citronella, Cassia, and Litsea Cubeba have a powerful, long lasting scent throw, and others like Copaiba Balsam and Carrot Seed have a lighter, airier scent, but we recommend experimenting with all of the essential oils as each one can provide something interesting to the profile of your blend.
If you need a carrier oil, we recommend Fractionated Coconut Oil/MCT. It stays in liquid form, absorbs quickly, has no oder, and is very healthy for your skin and hair. Coconut Oil can also be purchased at the grocery store, when heated it is ready to use as a carrier oil. Alternatively, you can use a spray bottle filled with water, but make sure you shake it before use.

It is our intention to provide pure, unadulterated, high-quality essential oils, and so they are very potent in their concentrated form. We advise consulting a physician if you aren't sure they are safe for you to use. Ask your physician how to perform a Patch Test before using essential oils; this involves heavily diluting the oil, cleaning a small area of skin, applying the diluted oil, covering with gauze, and checking for irritation after 24 hours. There is a lot of information online about how to use essential oils and test for sensitivities but if you've never used them before, are taking medications, have allergies, are pregnant or nursing, or have strong skin sensitivities, then we advise that you consult a physician or practice under a licensed Aromatherapist.
*Caution - Avoid contact with eyes, not for internal use. Exposure to sunlight after applying to the skin can be harmful. Essential Oils can cause irritations, dilute well before applying to the skin. Consult a physician before use.
Skin irritation can be caused by many factors, such as sensitivity or allergic reaction, using undiluted oils, applying to dry skin, and exposure to sunlight after application. There are many oils known to cause skin irritation, among them are Ylang-Ylang, Lemongrass, Cinnamon/Cassia, Tea Tree, Clove Bud, Laurel Leaf, Litsea Cubeba, Minty Oils, and Citrus Oils. Cold Pressed Citrus Oils like Bergamot, Grapefruit, Lemon, Lime, and Mandarin are known to be phototoxic, avoid exposure to sunlight, tanning beds, or any UV rays 12-18 hours after use. If you are using oils with photosensitivity, apply in the evening a few hours before bedtime.
